EncodeHD 1.1.119.0 Released

Hey all,

Another relatively small update – I seem to have no time for anything at the moment :( Here’s the changes:

  • NEW: Files with no audio tracks can now be encoded
  • NEW: Preliminary support for the ZuneHD (in theory, it all should work)
  • CHANGE: Increased Zune audio bitrate limit to 192kbps
  • CHANGE: Updated MediaInfo to 0.7.20
  • CHANGE: Updated FFmpeg to r19673
  • CHANGE: Some minor code cleanup
  • FIX: Audio Sample Rate wasn’t being set correctly for each profile
  • FIX: -ar FFmpeg flag didn’t work

Download is in the EncodeHD section

    Dan,
Thanks for your reply on apple Tv having 720p in its profile. I am still having problems with The Apple Tv profile downscaling an input file @ 1080p to 720p . When the H264 box is checked my output file is only 960×540. When unchecked The ouput file is 720X404. I also tried other profiles such as Ps3, WD TV and YoutubeHD. The PS3 profile is the same as the input file 1080p as is the WD TV profile. YoutubeHD is Downscaled to 720p. The only one is Apple Tv that won’t work for me. I had This problem on this release as well as 1.1.108.0. Is there something I doing wrong?

    Thanks
    Rob

      Hi Dan,

Thanks it works perfect. Apple TV profile 720p @ 25fps. I use your program not only because its easy, but its one of the fastest HD encoder I’ve ever used. Thanks again for your Help.

      Rob.

I’ve allready emailed this but thought i’d post it here anyway..
If i encode a file to Xbox360 WMVHD my subs are placed in the topleft corner instead of in the middle and down..
Also the font is really small..
    Any ideas??

I’m trying out this latest release, and when encoding from a .flv file to the ipod classic format, the audio quality goes way down hill.

Here is the sample file before encode: http://www.mirror.adubvideo.net/video.flv

Listen to it first, for about the first minute or so. Encode a sample, and listen again. The audio has lost lots of clarity and sounds pretty horrible. I’m not sure about what exactly is causing this, but I thought you should know.

      Hey Austin.

This is currently a known issue for low quality input audio. I’m looking into it, but I’m currently bogged down with other commitments. Will get a new release out when I can! :)

      Cheers, Dan

I recently download Encode HD to try and convert some of my stored video files on my acting server. Anyways I did it for the sole purpose to stream to my Xbox 360. Now when I go to play the files they can not be found on the dashboard at all. Also I found them in media player dealy thing and it says that they are not the correct format and cannot be played.

Any idea on how to fix this?

    Would be much appreciated

    Thanks
    Adrian

Long time user of Encode360 and I recommended it every chance I got, so thanks for that. Now I’m looking at getting a Zune HD and I’m glad to see that you’ve already included a preset for it, but I’m concerned about the aspect ratio now. I just did a test encode of a single chapter (from the movie “Peaceful Warrior”, retail pressed media that I own), and the AR on the actual video is 1.78.

The resulting DVD playback results in a resolution of 853×362 (720×362 expanded a bit), but when I do the encode with EncodeHD and the final output is 408×272. Now I understand the concept of the 272 there, but technically since the Zune HD is capable of 480×272, the actual resulting “optimal” resolution should always be 480 pixels wide, with the resulting adjustment producing a final encode that *should be* 480×208.

I’m guessing it could be just a bug, a transposed digit in the compile, I don’t know. But with the Zune HD and that 480 pixels wide, the content *should* always be encoded to match the width, and the cropping for the height should take care of itself.

I did a test encode with HandBrake on the same file and forced the resolution to 480 pixels wide and the result was, exactly as expected, 480×208 in the end.

I’m also a bit concerned about the actual file size in terms of bytes when the result is finished. I’m not bashing EncodeHD here, please don’t take my comments in that light. I’m hoping to make it better, and with you now using the very popular ffmpeg encoder, this stuff should be easy to do. If the intent of using EncodeHD to provide excellent quality (not just passable results) for encodes, can you “fix” the Zune HD preset so it’s:

    - 480 pixels wide output
    - increase the audio bitrate to maybe 160 Kbps – I’m not sure what it is now but it’s lower than I expected and the sound quality is noticeably inferior to what the x264 encoder is capable of in HandBrake

I can provide samples of the encodes, done with EncodeHD, and HandBrake using both x264 and ffmpeg encoders.

Last thing: once we get our hands on Zune HD’s, perhaps it would be possible to add a preset for doing actual 720p encodes using EncodeHD as well, as that’s the biggest new thing about the Zune HD powered by that Tegra… ;)

Thanks again for your efforts, and I will continue to recommend your apps for that ease of use and simplicity. I hope I didn’t come across with any “GIMME GIMME GIMME” attitude, I’m just hoping to make EncodeHD just that much better, at least for the Zune HD.

    Have fun, always…

      Hi Paul,

I mailed you about this a few days ago. Can you let me know if you didn’t get it?

      Thanks, Dan

    Hi

    Great app
Any chance of Microsoft *.dvr-ms and *.wtv file support
I do a lot of recordings in these formats then have to convert/remove the *.dvr-ms/*.wtv wrapper to get a file ready for encodeHD

    Keep up the good work

    ern

    • Dan Cunningham 21 September 2009 at 6:51 pm #

      Hey Ern,

As I understand it, FFmpeg doesn’t support these formats directly. The only currently solution would be to do what you’re currently doing, convert to an interim format. Since EncodeHD is scriptable though, you should be able to set up a workflow in your conversion process to start EncodeHD and automatically encode once WTVConvertor is finished.

      Cheers, Dan
