EncodeHD 1.0.81.0 Released
Oh hai!
Well, this release is a little bit late, since I’ve had a pretty busy weekend. I’ve also had an exceptionally busy week and so I didn’t get all of the features I wanted in here. However, there was Zune issues that I felt had to be resolved as soon as possible. Anyway, the changelog speaks for itself. Download is in the EncodeHD section, hope you enjoy! :)
- NEW: Snarl notifications on encoding completion, if you have it installed (http://www.fullphat.net)
- CHANGE: WDTV profile no longer includes an AAC audio track when AC3 passthrough is selected
- CHANGE: Force 2 Channels for AC3 to prevent errors. Need further work to mux in 5.1 AC3 on supported profiles
- CHANGE: Minor cosmetic / wording changes
- CHANGE: FFmpeg updated to SVN-r18306
- CHANGE: MediaInfo SVN-0.7.12+ (01/04/2009)
- CHANGE: Some code refactoring
- FIX: CABAC Entropy Encoding in H.264 was causing Zune encodes to transcode on import
Dan

Ive been following your progress, and using your program to create my movies for my xbox 360 and to say the list im happy i ran into your website. I have been having a problem you made the advance features to where it chooses a language, i have a video where the first stream is Russian and the second is English. I try to convert the video but the problem is once its done the English language is selected but the audio for the movie is all chopped up. Would there be anything you suggest? Many thanks , looking forward to hearing from you.
Could you send me the log file for that particular encode? I’d like to take a closer look.
Thanks, Dan
It should currently have no problem downmixing 5.1 audio to stereo. I notice you said 5.1 *AAC* though. I know the format is around, but I’ve never come across it. Did you mean AC3, or really AAC?
Cheers, Dan
– I can drop a standard definition DVR-MS file (recorded off the air using a Hauppauge PVR-500 tuner card) onto encodehd and the conversion will run without complaint.
– if I drop a DVR-MS file of an HD program (recorded using the HDHomerun from SiliconDust), I get the error message, “Each file requires at least one audio stream to encode. It’s possible that the file you are attempting to read is corrupt.” Meanwhile, the program plays (with audio) just fine in Media Center.
Any idea why this would happen? Thanks!
Can you point me to somewhere I can get a sample file to try out? It’s possible that MediaInfo isn’t able to detect the audio, in which case I can escalate this to the developer.
Cheers, Dan
There’s currently no way of hardcoding subtitles using EncodeHD. I’m looking into it though. Don’t expect it anytime soon though I’m afraid.
Dan
One issue I am having is that the volume is very low on files that I have converted for my xbox360. I found that I should be able to add the ffmpeg flag, -vol , where volume 256 is normal volume. I added -vol 512 to the extra flags input, but it doesnt seem to get added correctly. The ffmpeg command from the log file is:
F:\enchd_1.0.81.0\ffmpeg.exe -y -i F:\test.mkv -vcodec libx264 -coder 1 -flags +loop -cmp +chroma -partitions +parti4x4+partp8x8+partb8x8 -rc_eq blurCplx^(1-qComp) -me_method hex -subq 6 -me_range 16 -g 250 -keyint_min 25 -sc_threshold 40 -i_qfactor 0.71 -b_strategy 1 -qcomp 0.6 -qmin 10 -qmax 51 -qdiff 4 -directpred 1 -flags2 +fastpskip -async 50 -threads 0 -level 41 -b 4711k -minrate 4711k -maxrate 4711k -bufsize 2355.5k -s 1280×534 -aspect 1280:534 -r 23.976 -acodec libfaac -ac 2 -ab 160k F:\test.MP4 -vol 512 512
You can see that there is an extra 512 at the end of the command which causes an error. If I paste this into a command window and delete the extra 512, everything seems to work fine, so I think the flag is just not being added properly. Am I doing this right?
By the way, it would be great to have a volume gain option in the interface. All of the files I convert for my xbox seem to have a low volume.
Yeah it looks like a bug on my side. I’ll look into it!
Cheers, Dan
I have this fixed. Can you contact me via the Contact Page and we can do some testing on a new version?
Thanks, Dan
quite a few files I try to encode wont even start and give me this error:
Error while opening codec for output stream #0.0 – maybe incorrect parameters such as bit_rate, rate, width or height
ffmpeg.exe Error while encoding ‘C:\test.mkv’.
Error while opening codec for output stream #0.0 – maybe incorrect parameters such as bit_rate, rate, width or height (Exit Code: 1)
However I don’t even use any parameters. This only happens with version 1.0.73.0 and 1.0.81.0
When I try it with 1.0.66.0 it works just fine. Any ideas why this happens and what I can do about it?
Thanks
I’m not sure why this is happening – I’d need to see the log file to determine. Could you mail me via the Contact page and I can walk you through some diagnosis steps?
Thanks in advance, Dan
Okay, it sounds like two seperate problems here. One being something in the auto-update, and the other being the same issue Steve had. Could you send me on a log file so I can try to narrow down the problems?
Thanks, Dan

Thanks for all the work you’ve done over the last few years. I’ve been a user/fan of your work since the early days of Encode360. I use EncodeHD whenever possible because it yields great results, and it’s simple enough that I can teach my family to use it.
I’m wondering if you can help me with a problem I’ve been having when trying to convert from MPEG2 (ripped from DVD). I am almost certain that it is actually a problem with MediaInfo, and not EncodeHD, and I also realize that DVD is not an HD source (and that EncodeHD might, therefore, not be the optimal solution), but I’d appreciate any input you might have.
When trying to convert from MPEG2, I receive the message, “Each file requires at least one audio stream to encode. It’s possible that the file you are attempting to read is corrupt”. When I check my MPEG2′s with MediaInfo, no audio stream is listed, even though I know that the audio is perfectly fine (I can stream the MPEG2′s to the 360 via Windows Media Center without issue).
Further information that might help–the MPEG2 files are the result of a direct DVD rip using Magic DVD Ripper and have not been processed in any way. The MPEG2′s are playable on the computer, by a number of different programs. The MPEG2′s audio streams are detected by Free Video Converter, which is able to convert them to MPEG4.
Lastly, I do have a feature request. It would be very helpful to have the option to force EncodeHD to output a single file, at-or-below the 4GB max, regardless of input file size/resolution (for XBox360 streaming purposes). I realize that this would introduce a serious level of complexity to a very streamlined application (not to mention the headaches it would likely cause you), but I suspect there are others who might take advantage of such a feature.
Many thanks for your great work,
Mike
PS – How can I donate?
Thanks for the encouragement and kind words. I’ve sent you an email!
Cheers, Dan
