EncodeHD 1.0.66.0
Hallo! Another Friday and time for another EncodeHD release
This one is a little bit different…
As you may have noticed, we’re suddenly out of beta and at 1.0! Well, sorta yeah. I figure I’d do away with the Beta / RC / FinalĀ labels and inconsisent version numbers and revise my whole numbering scheme; to better align with the fact that the application is going to receive a lot of incremental updates.
So what would you like to see in future builds? I’d like to hear thoughts…
Here’s what’s new in this release:
- NEW: Update information is displayed with each update
- NEW: iPod Atom is correctly set. This should prevent issues when trying to import into iTunes
- NEW: Media Splitting now shows progress
- NEW: Log Files are now stored in My Documents folder under “EncodeHD Log Files”
- NEW: View Log Files link under Advanced Settings
- CHANGE: Switched to SVN build of Atomic Parsley for iPod Atom Tagging
- CHANGE: Complete rewrite of the update checking mechanism
- CHANGE: Bitrate Tolerance now set in FFmpeg (-bt)
- CHANGE: Log Files are no longer overwritten and instead, are appended with the current date
- CHANGE: If FFmpeg fails, the error now displays what file the error occurred on
- CHANGE: Updated MediaInfo to 0.7.11
- CHANGE: Some minor code tweaks and cleanup
- CHANGE: Version number format change
- FIX: Media Splitting was STILL broken. This is hopefully solved now
- FIX: iPod Settings were not respecting the H.264 LC Baseline Profile
- FIX: Advanced Flags could potentially throw an array index error
- FIX: More locale issues where decimal was assumed to be .
Download link is in the EncodeHD section!

Hello Dan,
I see that you have some problems with H264 playback on BB Bold. I have one, and would like to help. Write me what can I do. In mean time, I will try to convert some of the files I have, and see what will happen.
I did try to encode Saving Private Ryan last night. Output file was played with KM player on my PC, and with WDTV player on my TV, but on Bold I just got black screen with audio playing. Is there something else I can do to help you locating problem?
Dan, thanks for the update. I’ve previously asked if you knew how to force EncodeHD to select a specific audio track on a MKV file. You’ve kindly suggested 2 different methods but each one does not work. The last time you said to use the advanced flags and input this command: -map 0:0 -map 0:2.0:1 I’ve tried this but the program just hangs or displays an error message. I’ve looked online for a solution but I can’t seem to find one that is successful. I have a MKV with one video track, identified by the VLC Media player as Stream 0, and two audio tracks. The audio tracks are Dutch (Stream 1) and English (Stream 2). I am trying to encode the MKV file into a XBOX 360 compatible MP4 file which is made up of the one video track an the secondary english audio track. Do you have any SPECIFIC sugggestions on how to accomplish this with your great program? Thanks for all your hard work. Great Job!
Hey Stiggs,
I’ve sent you an email about this.
Cheers, Dan
This program rocks! Just a couple suggestions. Allow the program to minimize to the system tray, and automatically set the priority of ffmpeg to below normal.
Hey there,
I might look into minimizing to the tray in the future – I’ll put it on the list. You can set it to run in Low Priority mode by launching it with the /LowPriority command-line switch.
Cheers, Dan
Not to add more to your list, but you should add WMV9 to your list of formats. It seems with the 0.5 release of FFMPEG it supports WMV9.
Agree the program rocks, any chance of making a youtube HD preset, 1280×720
Just recoded another file for xbox360. Works great!
But is it possible to output a 720P file instead of a 1080P file?
Or even better, detect input file resolution and keep it the same
Hi there,
I wondered what happens to a 6-channel audio stream from an mkv file if I convert it to mp4 format (using the xbox360 profile)? As it seems the mp4 file I get has only 2 channels. This if fine for me since I only have a stereo system anyway. But what I want to know is what happens to the other channels (namely the “rear” and “center” ones)? Do they simply get erased or do they get mixed up with the 2 front channels? To put it simple: Do I lose something from the rear channels when I convert the file into an mp4 file or is it kept in the front channels instead?
Thanks for all the good work so far!
Has anyone found a work around on how to get 5.1 audio on the Xbxo360?
