EncodeHD 0.86b Released
How I got this done I have no idea. It’s been a pretty manic week what with wrapping up work for Christmas and the endless partying, but some how I’ve still managed to get a new release together
The big thing with this release is command-line parameters, for working into your automated processes. Additionally, you can now replace FFmpeg flags. For example, to force a video bitrate of 4000k, use “-b 4000k” in the advanced flags option. This will always override what EncodeHD thinks the bitrate should be. And to add to that, MP4Box is being used, to automatically splitting files above 4GB after encoding
This is probably going to be the last release until the New Year, as I’m not going to have all that much time for development until then.
Download and full changelog in the EncodeHD section!
Have a great Christmas!!

Very nice job as always bud
Now destroy some more liver !!
Yeh well done Dan, is this new than the beta out to testers which looks to be 0.85?
Hi Geoff. Yep, this had a few extra bugfixes
Cool, thx dan
Thanks for the impressive and intuitive tool. Greets and best wishes via http://www.videohelp.com
Very nice job Dan ! It’s a very helpful software that you’re offering us. Thanks a lot !
Awesome work – thanks for getting this out! It is really appreciated!
Hey, my Zune videos are transcoding, could someone e-mail me?
Shouldn’t it convert Videos for Zune? I am using the zune setting.
I’m aware that in some cases, this happens and I’m looking in to it.
Cheers, Dan
dan could you please put the WMV option back in here for us 360 users, the xvid sucks, poor, very poor quality, and the mp4 sucks because its only stereo.
the xvid quality can be increased, your using way way too low of a bitrate thus you lose an extreme amount of quality.
hd xvid can be done, and done with some pretty darn good quality (for xvid) but th ebitrate needs to be higher.
if you do not want to use WMV, which i totally disagree with your reason for stopping encode360, then make encodeHD usable for the xbox360. in its current state, far too much is lost using the 360 profile. ie; stereo instead of 5.1 and poor video quality for xvid.
its either that or you give us the “advanced” options to allow us to shoose our bitrates for audio and video,,,, and subtitles, like you did with encode360.
i love encode360 man, i can believe you are stopping it. wmv is still the best format for the 360 for HD content. well until 5.1+ audio is enabled for mp4.
WMV *CAN’T* be supported in EncodeHD (WMAPro which produces 5.1 audio isn’t possible with FFmpeg), and Encode360 is dead because Mirosoft killed off Windows Media Encoder. I’m really tired of repeating myself on this.
For the last time, EncodeHD is NOT specifically for the X360, it’s for a variety of devices. It’s working brilliantly for most people. Disagree with my reasons if you feel like it, but please stop hounding me about things I can’t do anything about.
Advanced options are already there under Advanced FFmpeg flags. You need to read the FFmpeg documentation to use them. Subtitles are being worked on, but you should know I don’t respond well to “demands”.
Thanks for your wonderful software. I’m using it to transcode HD movie into Mp4 ps3 readable files and it works very well.
I just have one sugestion. Sometimes, HD movies use aac 6.1 as audio and the PS3 is not able to play this audio format… Adding a transconding from aac 6.1 to acc 5.1 or dolby 5.1 could be a great idea.
Hey, thanks for the kind words.
Actually 5.1 in either AAC or AC3 isn’t supported in the MP4 container on PS3 yet. I have a possible solution to remux as a VOB which does support 5.1 but that’s just an idea at the moment.
Cheers, Dan
Question about the Output Quality scroller, does it mean ¼, ½… of original video quality or ¼,½… of full HD?
Thank you
It’s a varying algorithm, based on the input video quality and the maximum bitrate supported by the target device. From that, the quality slider will scale the bitrate. So for instance, if you have a 2000k source file, with a device that only supports 1000k, then full quality will be 1000k, 1/2 will be 500k etc.
Cheers, Dan
Great site and software, I just got my vista media center and have to searching on the best way to stream through media center to my xbox 360. As I understand it the xbox can use different codecs depending on if you use media center or a UPnp source. I prefer using the media center interface on the xbox. Do any of the output formats encodeHD support work with media center using xbox as an extender?
Thank you
jb
I think your program is great and that it is very simple to use. I hate all the programs that require a 1000 settings and in the end after hours of trying it does not work. I would like a couple of additional setting and or more information. The settings should be simple I just want to convert my videos and watch smooth motion with Dolby Audio. This program is on it’s way of being the DVDShrink of the Video Conversion software.
The XBOX 360 audio support Dolby Pro Logic II when the audio is converted is it converted to this format? I can’t find any info on this.
Also is it possible to have a merge button. If I have 5 files in the queue and I select the “Merge” button then all the files will be compressed and converted into 1 MP4 file. Again if the software does this please let me know. Right now I have to use VOBmerge to merge all VOB files first then use your program to convert them.
I would be helpful if I had the ability to adjust some settings. Like bitrates (I know this can be set with “Advanced options” but I not well versed with ffMpeg settings to do this.
Also to have the ability to Deinterlace, Denoise, DeBlock, Decomb, Detelecine.
I hope this will give you ideas that will create a better program
Thank you;
Raymond
Great stuff Reymond – nice to meet peeps who appreciate Dan’s hard work.
I’m not sure about the pro-logic stuff, but I believe the rest is do-able with the Advanced Settings, and maybe a bit of AVS.
I’ll look in to the specifics for you.
Hi,
been using encodeHD think it is great, nice job Dan!!
Quick question, I am trying to encode for my xbox 360 and selecting the correct output type in the driop down list however when i come to play the converted files on my xbox 360 media centre extender i am getting an error saying no codec found.
looking through forums it does not look like MCE2005 supports the H.264 format but the latest versions of MCE does, will a simple uprade to Vista solve this problem??
also with regard to the output, can i assume that if the file being input is HD with 5.1 audio then the output file will maintain the same quality??
thanks again.
Regards
Thanks any help with the advance codes that would be great! I looked for FFMpeg code but I only found a few.
Thanks;
Raymond
I tried using the Advanced Flags but it did not seem to work. I used exactly as listed above
-b 4000k (Note I did not use quotes) and the video’s bitrate is still 1300k. I must be doing something wrong. I have EncodeHD version 0.86 Beta.
Thank you;
Raymond
Thanks for the awesome piece of software Dan. Its great to see your clean, simple to use interface come over from encode360.
One question, I am trying to encode files for the PSP. What settings or advanced flags do you recommend? I have been searching google, but haven’t found any answers.
Woops, I’d forgotten all about the PSP as a supported device! I’ll see if I can dig up the supported specs and get a profile together for the next release.
Cheers, Dan
Thanks for the quick reply. From what I have been able to find, the PSP supports a few different resolutions but it is very picky for the higher resolutions.
By default the PSP supports MP4 and h.264 @ 480×272 or lower resolution. (with recent firmwares)
It also supports 2 higher resolutions as well, 720×480 and 640×480. Apparently, the two larger sizes need to be encoded with CABAC entropy encoder (whatever that means).
I hope this helps !!
Dan, you have triumphed again.
Thanks a lot for creating another easy to use program, I’ve been finding the .h264 conversion scene pretty daunting lately (demuxing and .avs scripts don’t like me, even after many hours of trying).
I’ve thrown a lot of different mkv files at it and it’s handled each one with ease, so no bugs to report yet!
Really appreciate your hard work.
