EncodeHD: Is there a point?
So I’ve been working on EncHD for a while, but it would take me an awful lot longer to have something stable and releasable. The problem is, I’ve had very little interest from people – I’ve even stopped getting any feedback from people testing the alpha releases.
So I’m kinda thinking, is there a point in continuing? Maybe this is already a very saturated area, and people are quite happy with what they have…

I am way interested!!!!! Your Encode360 is the easiest and best way to get mkv files into a format that I can play on my 360. It’s the best way to play HiDef content.
This new tool sounds even better. Please continue…
Please continue. Encode 360 is the BEST for getting mvk’s onto my HD TV. If there’s anything I can do to help out, let me know, but please continue.
Please do continue, i think it’s a great program….although being no programmer i cannot help….
Really would hate to see this project die. This is my number one resource for converting stuff for my Zune and 360.
I’m looking forward to this project too.
Dan, your work on this project is greatly appreciated. I’m sure that your efforts have been a tremendous help to many people. Please know that we are anticipating the release of EncodeHD and hope that you continue the development of this terrific software.
Thanks
and Me is still testing Alpha 0.5.1
2 Star Trek Films done – 8 to go….
I’m also looking into FFMPEG and MKV+SUBS as this would be a massive plus.
Please continue with this project. I use Encode360 all of the time and your new toll sounds great. I have been watching your page with interest waiting for a downloadable version of EncHD to try.
Please, please continue…
Don’t worry peeps – Dan still currently working on it
Many people are interested in EncodeHD, you may think that there aren’t many but people usually express their interest at whatever community they follow. I’m part of quite a few 360 communities and I can tell you that there is a very large number of people that use Encode360 and who also are anticipating EncodeHD’s release.
I give you the best advice that I’ve ever recieved:
“Never give up. Trust your instincts.” – James McCloud, Star Fox.
If you need a tester, let me know. I’m a long time fan of Encode360 and can’t wait for the HD one…
I would use EncodeHD once it handles enough video formats. I would also recommend it to a lot of people I know who don’t like to learn anything new…. so the simpler the better for them.
I hope you implement an options mode or advanced mode where additional settings could be adjusted.
One thing I really like about HandBrake is that if you pause the mouse over any control it usually gives you something telling you A> What it means and B> what a “sane” value for that field would be.
Well, that’s the plan. Keep it simple. We know that if you’re a geek, you can pretty much script FFmpeg yourself
EncodeHD is aimed at people who want a click and go solution.
At the moment, I’m not implementing much new feature-wise, until I’m confident that most of the encoding issues are resolved. At that point, I’ll investigate things like Advanced settings, video stitching, command-line automation etc.
That’s a great idea. If I could ask you a favour, would you mind submitting it as an actual feature request to cases@dcunningham.fogbugz.com ? I know I’ll only forget unless I keep track of everything in the issue tracker.
Cheers! Dan
