WMA only allows you to migrate the same user (or multiple users) from one machine to another. I don&#039;t think it&#039;s possible with USMT to migrate from one profile to another. Since WMA expects you to login as the same user on both machines, it&#039;s not able to find the datastore since it&#039;s looking for your previous user details.

It IS possible to move profiles on the same machine however, with the Microsoft MoveUser tool (for XP) or using WMI&#039;s Win32_UserProfile (for Vista). Google should have a few articles on how to use these.

		<description>Dan I cant get the datastore to pick up the restore path...

I edit the migrationnetworklocation which appears to be the only place to enter a local path too - i enter c:\restore and it does nto find the datastore - i am trying to take the profile from one account then log on as another and overwrite it - as you can do with the files and settings transer wizrd.. however when i select the location of the datastore and try and restore it just says

unable to find migration datastore fro the current user.
