Workstation Migration Assistant 1.02

Just a few minor updates here, mainly based off some requests and bug reports:

  • NEW: Added Target OS Option under Advanced Settings
  • NEW: Added MigrationExclusionsOlderThanDays option to config. This is ignored if set to 0 (default), but will exclude all accounts not logged in within the specified period, ie. 90 days. This uses USMT’s /UEL: parameter
  • CHANGE: If MaxMigrationSize is set to 0, there is no limit to the migration size
  • FIX: Under certain conditions, progress monitoring would continue even when the migration was finished or cancelled

  1. Dan I cant get the datastore to pick up the restore path…

I edit the migrationnetworklocation which appears to be the only place to enter a local path too - i enter c:\restore and it does nto find the datastore - i am trying to take the profile from one account then log on as another and overwrite it - as you can do with the files and settings transer wizrd.. however when i select the location of the datastore and try and restore it just says

unable to find migration datastore fro the current user.

    Any help?

  2. Hey Gary,

WMA only allows you to migrate the same user (or multiple users) from one machine to another. I don’t think it’s possible with USMT to migrate from one profile to another. Since WMA expects you to login as the same user on both machines, it’s not able to find the datastore since it’s looking for your previous user details.

It IS possible to move profiles on the same machine however, with the Microsoft MoveUser tool (for XP) or using WMI’s Win32_UserProfile (for Vista). Google should have a few articles on how to use these.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers, Dan
