Encode360 2.0 RC1
After 9 months in beta, it’s time I took this puppy towards a stable release
A few points to note…
- The app can only ever be as stable as WME is, and your Codec configuration. If Enc360 can’t encode a video, try encode it in Windows Media Encoder. If you hit a problem here, the chances are, I can’t fix it (although someone in the forums *might* be able to tell you how to reconfigure your codecs to get things working). My point is, someone’s ALWAYS going to have problems because of WME and codec problems. It doesn’t necessarily mean Encode360 is not stable.
- x64 support is not x64 native. It seems that the x64 Windows Media Encoder doesn’t given great performance. However, all the kinks have hopefully been worked out so that Enc360 can use the x86 WME, without all of the problems people were hitting before.
- Multi-core works flawlessly on 3 different Core 2 Duo’s that I’ve tried, running both XP and Vista, and has been verified to work on AMD dual-core with Vista x64.
- Enc360 will intentionally not install if WME is not already installed. The forum is FLOODED with people who haven’t bothered their arses reading the install instructions. This change is to prevent any more of these. If I start getting emails saying ‘app wont install, says it needs WME. please fix’ i may actually just hunt you down and beat you.
Changelog and download link are in the Encode360 section
Cheers, Dan.

I have windows vista ultimate 64 bit edition. I installed windows media encoder 9 x64 edition and restarted, and began the installation of your program. i get an error stating “windows media encoder 9 was not found on your machine.” maybe a bug because the encoder is 64 bit?
As per the release info:

You need to install the x86 version too. It’s also been noted that you might need the x64 add-on for K-Lite – can’t confirm this as I don’t have 64-bit myself.
Cheers, Dan
I’m just trying to find a way to download movies onto my Zune. I have a windowxp operating system and know nothing about computers. can you help me?
Thanks
I have Quad Core processor, i see 2 of them working hard, like 80 % (that is probably your duo-core feature) and the 2 other works at 20%. In general my processor work at 50%.
I wonder if it is possible to push the multicore support to quad core processing ?
Good work with the application
.
I’m running Windows Vista Home Premium x64, and Encode360 just crashes on startup. I have Windows Media Encoder all installed, I chose to not install the K-Lite Codec Pack, as I already have the Combined Community Codec Pack(which I think is a little better)
For reference System Specs:
Core 2 Quad @ 3GHz
4GB RAM
8800 Ultra
I have windows media encoder 9 and everything but installer crashes straight away,
Specs:
AMD x2 4600+
250GB HD
1GB RAM
7600GT
Vista Home Premium
Good job. I’m running it on a VMware box right now. That dual core support is really helping. Again, really appreciate it.
Hey i have installed Windows Media Encoder and have just tried converting an MP4 file to WMV.. is this possible using your 360Encode?
Hey i have installed Windows Media Encoder and have just tried converting an MP4 file to WMV..and it couldnt find the correct codec.. it kept saying codec error..
Is it even possible to do this using your 360Encode?
I have tried installing this today, but the install fail when looking for WME, I have .NET 2.0, and WME x64 edition installed on my Vista Ultimate dual core pc.
FYI in the install routine you need to check 2 locations on a x64 machine as there are 2 program files directories…
C:\Program Files (x86)
Thank you so much, it has been so hard to find a good, free encoder, but you seem to have made one here, so I’m just here to say thanks.
Hi there,
Fantastic piece of software, thanks!
One question though… why have you removed the “monitor directory” function from the RC1? I liked the idea of having files downloaded and automatically moved into the monitored folder so that Encode360 would convert it into a format that I can stream to my xBox. Would be nice to have that back if you’ve got the time.
Cheers, K.
Hi,
is it possible to execute encode360 from command line to automatically starts and encode? thanks!!!
Hi,
I’m also interested in executing encode360 from the command prompt passing a file location and output location?
Is this possible?
Thanks in advance.
can we get some answers about the problem with x64 machines, your program doesn’t work on them, either fix or stop realesing, its the 21st cent’
Hey m …. don’t like it don’t use it putz. Instead of asking for help with x64 machines you say “fix it or stop releasing it”. Just a little out of line my friend. I have news for you … it is one of the best transcoding programs that I’ve ever come across and it works like a charm on a 32 bit, Vista, quad core machine. Uses over 80% of all 4 procs. BTW there are tonnes of other programs that don’t work well on an x64 box so you better get busy and start posting nasty messages to all of them.
i have 3 machines, al lduel cores, 1 intel 2 AMDs.
the duel core feature only works if i cancel the encode, close encode360 and re-attempt like 20 times, only after many re-tries does it start using more than a single core….
Its not just my machine as it does this on all 3.
I’ve installed everything as specified with no other codecs, one of the machines (the Intel) is actually a completly fresh install of Xp with absolutly nothing on it apart from a firewall and the usualy windows updates.
Anyone else experiancing this very tempramental ‘multicore’ support and have any tips on how to make it permanent?
Jon.
