Encode360: Codec Configuration - Best settings to prevent problems

So I’ve spent literally, HOURS trying to figure out the best codec configuration to prevent against encoding problems with Encode360. I can’t make any guarantees that this won’t have knock-on effects elsewhere ( Confused ) and it definitely won’t fix every problem but it’s fixed the majority of issues for me (bar 2 video files). Anyway, re-install K-Lite with the following settings:

Video:
H.264 should be handled by “ffdshow”
MPEG2, DVD should be handled by “ffdshow (libavcodec)”

Audio:
AAC should be handled by “CoreAAC”

I’ve successfully managed to encode about 20 different filetypes with a variety of different audio and video codecs. Here’s the list of ones I’ve tested and work perfectly for me, and these seem to be the most common (codec info pulled from MediaInfo)

Video:
AVC1, V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC, MPEG-2V, XVID, SVQ3

Audio:
AAC, A_AC3, AC3, Vorbis, A_AAC/MPEG4/LC/SBR, A_VORBIS, MPA1L2

With a bit of work, we can probably tweak around with the codec config enough to support most codecs. Any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated!

  1. I tried using K-Lite so I could try MPEG2 again (with your recommended settings) but I still get same error to read/write protected memory:

[Error]Encode/funcEncode/EncodePrepare: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
    [Error]Encode Events/subEncode_ProcessFiles: funcEncode_EncodeFile failed to start

  2. Might be approaching this the wrong way. MPEG2 seems fine with the above settings for me. What about the audio codec?

  3. The .TS file works so I’ll use that instead (used htdvtompeg converter before to get a MPG file). It’s regular AC3 so probably not the issue.

Strange thing is also that if I use quality based VBR it crashes still with same error. And after that error (even with reboot) I keep getting that error for any settings. Usually I have to reinstall K-Lite to make it work again.

The CBR 1 pass though is acceptable to me. Thanks again for a great program.

  4. Same read/write protected problem as Luke…

  5. i bet its the AC3 codec causing memory problems. I use many different Encoders , and i have seen it before
