Encode360 2.0b6 Released!!!!

It’s been an awfully long time coming, but I figure that’s it high time I released a Stable build. For everyone who’s stayed with 2.0b5 since the last release around Christmas, there’s been a LOT of changes….

Encode360 2.0 beta 6 Changelog (Abridged):

  • NEW: FLV & WMV Support
  • NEW: Ability to Drag/Drop re-order of items in the encoding list.
NEW: “Enable / Disable Subtitles through FFDshow” to Advanced Settings
NEW: “Preferred Subtitles Language” Option to Advanced Settings. This is so that PreProcessing Scripts (such as the updated one for MKV files) can extract and use them
  • NEW: ETA on Encoding Completion (Requested by damski)
  • NEW: Shutdown PC when finished (Requested by Hitcher)
  • CHANGE: Massive internal re-write. I had been putting this off for a while, but eventually I had to do it. I’ve compartmentalized all of the Encoder code into a separate class and re-written huge segments. This has eliminated a HUGE amount of the codebase, and made it a lot more flexible.
  • CHANGE: Disabled .NET x86 directive. This means x64 isn’t currently supported, until someone gets around to re-compiling specifically for 64-bit. Schlicky will hopefully do this over the next few days
  • CHANGE: Huge overhaul to the Aspect Ratio handling code. Now works with Non-Square Pixel videos (Thanks to Zen)
  • CHANGE: Seriously cleaned up Debug Information
  • CHANGE: Rewrite to the PreProcessing Script code. New MKV PPS Scriptlet linked below. Extract to the Encode360 folder (will create a subfolder called MKV\)
  • CHANGE: Logging now includes less useless details, and more important details
  • CHANGE: Debug Info is no longer a Top-Most Window
  • CHANGE: An error is no longer displayed if no subtitles were found in an MKV
  • CHANGE: Updated MediaInfo to 0.7.5.0 (LOTS of media-detection bugs fixed)
  • FIX: Framerate “Double” error could occur if not using English as your Locale Settings (thanks to Zen)
  • FIX: Certain audio streams returned an invalid sampling rate which caused Encode360 to bomb out
  • FIX: If Autoscale was not enabled and was a saved setting, the Output Resolution was always 0×0 unless you ticked and unticked Autoscale
  • FIX: Non-Square Pixels were always detected, even when the source video wasn’t
  • FIX: Invalid duration times in a number of container formats, ie, MKV, OGM (which led to a host of other problems)
  • FIX: Force 2 Channel Audio Downmix setting now saved
  • FIX: Force Quality Based Audio Encoding setting now saved
  • FIX: Better Exception handling when running PreProcessing Scripts
  • FIX: Ratio division bug - see http://dcunningham.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=283
  • FIX: If autoscale was disabled, Height / Width values were inverted resulting in a bad encode

MKV Subtitle Pre-Processing Scriptlet Changelog:

  • NEW: Subtitle Language Support
  • NEW: Support for additional subtitle formats: UTF, IDX, SUB, SRT, SMI, RT, TXT, SSA, AQT, MPL and USF
  • CHANGE: Better debug output for troubleshooting
  • CHANGE: Updated MKVToolNix

  1. Thanks Dan. Your hard work is much appreciated by those of us who haven’t got a clue about writing apps like this.

    Keep up the good work.

  2. Thanks a lot man. I was having a ton of problems with the older version, I downloaded this one, and it is perfect. Thanks again.

  3. Is there a way to get an ETA for all the files I have on the list? I noticed it is just for the current file, and I was just wondering…

  4. Afraid not. :(

  5. If you don’t mind, I would like to submit a request. It is possible for you to put in a pause feature? Sorry to sound ungrateful, I really do appreciate all the work you have done, but I just wanted to throw that out there for future versions.

  6. got problems to run the programm. windows say´s programm produced an error .

    i used vista.

  7. I also get a error trying to start it… i got all the .net frameworks (except 3.0) … any ideas?

Error says ‘Encode360 2.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience”

  8. I should also add that I am using XP

  9. You don’t have Windows Media Encoder installed. Please follow the installation instructions here: http://dcunningham.net/projects/encode360/

  10. Spencer, see Feature Request / Bug List here: http://dcunningham.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=292

    It’s not currently possible :(

  11. This is simply amazing…the first one was not running for me at all(maybe my own fault)but this one runs great and does an amazing Job…its the first Prog that i tried that will do six channel audio encode…all others that i tried making only 2channel…Big thx for working on this great program…Now its Time to encode some nice Movies for my 360 to look on my big Samsung Lcd with no hazzle anymore with TvVersity and all that stuff that was never realy working for me….Thx again…

  12. Sorry about that. I guess I could have checked for a topic, before leaving a comment. Thanks for the reply.

  13. Dude you rock. Awesome work!

  14. Great program. I still get the incorrect duration for all MKV files (.H264/AC3).
But since you show the duration in the advanced settings I can deduct from that the actual % when it’s done.

I do have unfortunately one problem. Any .TS file or MPG (mpeg2) will crash after 10 seconds, saying trying to read/write memory error. So not sure if that is supported.

  15. Acido, if you install Windows media encoder the problem finished. I have the same problem

    Hi

  16. I’m having a problem with Encode360 crashing/failing to encode when not forcing a 2-ch downmix on a 6-ch source. Source file is .mkv w/AVC video and AC3 audio (6-ch/48KHz).

  17. Do you guys not test your software before release? I cannot install thison Windows XP SP2. I followed all of your requirement (WMEncoder 9, WMPlayer 11, .NET Framework, K-lite…).

I still get the Windows Dialog Error ” Windows encountered an error…”

  18. Ermmm, yes, it IS tested, to the best of my ability, considering I’m the only person working on it, in my spare time. Also, I should point out that this *is* still a beta, and it’s also quite free, so you can forgive if it’s not up to the release quality of commerical apps.

The error you’re reporting, from previous experience, occurs because Windows Media Encoder isn’t installed, or is a dodgy installation. I’m doing my best to figure out a way off supressing this generic error, and replacing it with something a bit more descriptive, but haven’t been able to, because I’m NOT an experienced developer, have limited time for this project, and the lack of help I’ve gotten (even though the source code is freely available) on fixing these problems is frankly appalling, for the amount of people using the app.

Can you please double-check your WME9 installation, and if this isn’t the root of the problem, maybe you can check your Event Logs and see if more information about the problem is provided here?

    Thanks, Dan.

  19. I have XP SP2, WMPlayer 10 (which shouldn’t matter), WMEncoder 9 and I can run just fine (all last betas). So must be something else. Maybe you’re missing a codec.

The only real problem left for me is that I get a crash with any TS or MPEG2 file. But probably the xbox360 can playback mpeg2 anyway so I’ll try that instead.

I think it’s a really great program. I appreciate the effort you took.

  20. I’ve been using your encoder for a while, Dan, but doubtless like many ‘lurkers’ haven’t left a comment. Your work is very appreciated; and the application generally works very happily as long as a bit of thought is applied when installing and using. Many thanks for building this.

  21. this has been a great program, it’s great of you to give away something you put so much effort into. but i’ve been using the program for a while and it seems that i get an error message with any of the new x264s that have been released.

  22. Is there a way to remove the debug info from my converted videos? I looked through settings and couldn’t find it :\
